Let's go on a guided tour of the International Center of Photography, shall we?!  Because photography captures a moment in time, and a whole bunch of equally poetic things.

We'll get an overview of the museum, plus see the following cool exhibits (please see the website for the full blurbs):

Weird Beauty: Fashion Photography Now

Yay!  I love weird, and I love beauty.  This exhibit sounds PERFECT.

This exhibition "will present the most innovative fashion photography of the last few years, from photographers who draw on a range of influences, including -- Art

- Sexuality

- Narrative

- Digital media

- Youth culture

It will also consider the impact of graphic design on the way that fashion photography is presented and there will be video!

Along with original photographic prints, the exhibition will feature hundreds of tear sheets and magazine covers from both mainstream and independent publications, by a range of photographers including Steven Meisel, Cindy Sherman, Mario Sorrenti, Nick Knight, Steven Klein, Miles Aldridge, Paolo Roversi, and Sølve Sundsbø,

This Is Not a Fashion Photograph

This Is Not a Fashion Photograph looks at the non-fashion sources of contemporary fashion photography.  These photographers may not have meant to take fashion pics, but they did capture authentic personal expression.  With photographs by Gordon Parks, Bruce Davidson, Walker Evans, Samuel Fosso, Doris Ulmann, Mark Cohen, Marc Riboud, Robert Mapplethorpe, Ben Shahn, and others.

Edward Steichen: In High Fashion, The Condé Nast Years, 1923–1937:

Wahoo!: 175 Fashion images from magazines like Vogue and Vanity Fair!

Steichen's crisp, detailed, high-key style revolutionized fashion photography, and his influence is felt in the field to this day—Richard Avedon, Robert Mapplethorpe, and Bruce Weber are among his stylistic successors.

Some of the images in the exhibition are well-known, iconic images in various histories of photography.

Hungarian photographer Martin Munkacsi (1896–1963) created dynamic and elegant images of models and athletes in motion. His unique style "required a combination of split-second timing and radical cropping."  We'll get to see how he worked, because the exhibit include Munkacsi's recently discovered negative archive helps to clarify his working methods and uncover the secrets behind his most famous images.

Culture for the Non-Cultured

Do you live in New York City -- with tons of culture right in your own backyard -- but see Superman Returns and other blockbusters, stuff you could see anywhere? Culture for the Non-Cultured participates in 2-3 cultural activities per month -- including theater, art galleries, museums, walking tours, aquariums, and historical homes. Each event brings in 20-60 people. Usually, we eat afterwards ... because nothing builds community like sitting around a table full of calories! **It is policy that there are no refunds for events, unless they are postponed or cancelled, so make sure you can come to the event before you pay ...**
